The Overland Track in Tasmania Australia covers a total distance of 65 kilometres through the spectacular Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Easier access, much-improved track conditions and modern outdoor equipment have in recent years made the trip far easier than in the past, however, the walk demands a reasonable degree of preparation and physical fitness, taking app. 6 days and 5 nights to complete. There are several areas for camping whilst walking Tasmania's Iconic Overland Track. Click on the link below for more information about each hut/campsite on the Overland Track. The Overland Track covers the area between Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair. Bushwalkers come from all over the world to walk this true wilderness walk travelling through spectacular dolerite mountains, past spectacular waterfalls, through a variety of unique ecosystems passing close to Tasmania's highest mountain, before finishing at Australia's deepest lake, Lake St Clair. This challenging walk, with its magnificent scenery combined with the physical challenges of this mountain walk, has ensured that the Overland Track has built a national and international reputation as one of the great wilderness bushwalks in the world. Fees are app. AUD$200 per adult, $160 children (5-17) - concession $160. All walkers must register before walking the Overland Track. You must also register/de-register at track heads. Please note a booking system and track fee is applicable to bushwalkers on the Overland Track from 01 November to 30 April. Walkers can walk the Overland Track outside this period without charge, and without having a booking.
