Prickly Wattle Campground offers basic bush camping and is located just a few kilometres south of Arthur River on the C214. There are a large number of sheltered sites at this large camping ground located next to the main road and app. 2 km south of Arthur River. Arthur River, in the Tarkine, is well-known for its excellent fishing including both salt and fresh water options. The Arthur River Cruise is a must if you are camping at Arthur River, where if you are lucky you will see the magnificent White Breasted Sea Eagle. To camp at Prickly Wattle, you will need to be largely self-sufficient, and carry your own water. Basic food provisions can be bought in Arthur River. There are very basic long drop toilets. Can you collect firewood, but under no circumstances is wood to be cut from trees. Dogs are OK, but they must be kept under control at all times. This campground is patrolled by the local Parks and Wildlife Ranger. There are other excellent camping options in Arthur River including Manuka, Nelson Bay, and Peppermint campgrounds. The Arthur River is one of Tasmania's seven major rivers and is the only river where you can take a cruise on a river that is completely wild. The Arthur River is some 170kms long and has never been logged or dammed - there hasn't been a bushfire through this part of the Tarkine Wilderness for almost 650 years. The river remains much as it has been for thousands of years. A cruise on the Arthur River is highly recommended when camping Arthur River.
